Devin asked:

I’m planning to get a garmin gps but when I looked online, there were so many series available. Baffled by the variety, I don’t know which one is right for me. I need something preferably 4.3 inches, a speaking gps, real time traffic alerts and reroutes etc. I don’t really care about bluetooth or picture views. Can someone give me differences between all the models?

I need a gadget like this for my outside runs, and from research it seems like Garmin is king of this world. It appears that they’ve got three different models, the 205, 305, and 405. The only difference I saw was that the 205 costs a $100 less than the 305 and 405. So, what’s the difference between these three models?

I’m considering buying a Garmin c340 navigation system, as I will be spending a lot of time tooling around the Austin area, which I am not terribly familiar with. How well does this unit work? Is there a better unit for a comperable price? And as far a GPS technology is concerned, do the roadways stay updated, as far as recognizing newly constructed roads, or roads that are closed? It seems like Austin is constantly undergoing road construction, and I would **** for my purchase to be out-of-date in a matter of months due to a web of new roads being constructed. Any way to keep it updated?

Garmin has released new maps. Most of their units are entitled to a free update if the unit was purchased recently.

Why don’t the i5 and c330 qualify for the free updates?

Without the updates, the units are already out of date.
I heard that updates cost close to $100. Is that correct?
