Now, it’s easy to search for locations on Google Maps or Mapquest, then transfer the addresses directly to your TomTom. Install TomTom HOME on your compter Hook up your TomTom to the computer via its USB port Search for the location you want. Click the Send link in the info window for the address. That will bring up a popup “Send to” form. Pick GPS, then pick TomTom, and hit the “Send” button. The address will instantly transfer to your TomTom device, the point will be saved as one of your favorites, and you can navigate to it or view it on a map just like with any other favorite.

Starting up can seem like a slow business, particularly if you’re in a hurry, because the GPS receiver needs to know exactly where each GPS satellite is to calculate your location. But satellites only broadcast their positions once every 30 seconds. So if any of their signals are interrupted–for example, by passing high buildings–the whole position-fixing process has to repeat itself again and again until the perfect fix is achieved. QuickGPSfix takes a smarter approach.

QuickGPSfix can speed up the time it takes to fix your GPS position by downloading the latest satellite data via an Internet connection. Just connect your TomTom device to your computer, and TomTom HOME automatically downloads “QuickGPSfix”–a special GPS data file that helps your TomTom fix your position quicker, even when the GPS signal is weak or partially blocked.

This unique, free service–which comes as standard with the GO (920/720/520/910/710/510) and ONE (XL/New Edition)–helps you fix your position and get navigating faster than ever.

On the road or no access to TomTom HOME?
Get the same “QuickGPSfix” data by simply connecting to any TomTom PLUS service, using a wireless data connection (GO 920/720/520/910/710/510 and ONE XL/3RD EDITION and 2nd Edition). As soon as a connection is established, the “QuickGPSfix” data is automatically updated.

Note: QuickGPSfix data has limited validity. So to keep on getting a faster position-fix, re-connect your device at least once a week.

To minimize the amount of data sent over your wireless data connection, this automatic update is only carried out if the data on your device is over 5 days old. The associated data usage of this service is less than 10 Kb per connection. Please contact your mobile service provider to determine the exact costs. To disable this automatic update, just select ‘Disable Auto QuickGPSfix’ on your TomTom device.

With an optional RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver accessory, you can get traffic information from the RDS-TMC Traffic service, which is delivered over unused FM radio channels. The RDS-TMC receiver is available as an accessory for the GO 930/730/530, 920/720/520, 910/710/510, ONE 3rd edition, ONE XL, ONE (30 series) and XL (30 series). The RDS-TMC receiver accessory comes with a 1-year free subscription to the TMC traffic service. With some TomTom models, an RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver is included in the box. The carrycase is a sturdy hard plastic that is strong enough to protect the GPS unit from bumps and drops. It is small enough to tuck away in a coat pocket. The only negative I have about the case is that it is not big enough to hold the accessories for storage at home but that is no problem when traveling because those things can remain in the car.

5 Stars It’s a carrying case. What else can I say.
It carries the GPS unit well as expected. I got it as a free add on when purchasing the TomTom One GPS unit. It made for a good xmas gift. I probably would have purchased something with a little more padding if I hadn’t got this for free though.

5 Stars Great little carrying case!
This carrying case came as a bonus for buying a refurb. TomTom. I bought the TomTom as a Christmas present for my son. The TomTom did not work and we had to send it back. Instead of taking a chance by buying another refurb TomTom unit, I decided to buy a mid-level priced Garmin (3 members of our family all use the Garmin with never a problem) and now we use this TomTom One case as the case for the Garmin Nuvi. I have complaints about our Nuvi cases because they are merely slip style cases that will allow the GPS to fall out if tipped the wrong way (ouch) and this case has a nice strap that holds the GPS in and a hand strap to hold it. It works beautifully. I would buy this case for the Garmin Nuvi and the Garmin Nuvi for this case. ;o)

The strap is not leather, the lock and button on strap are plastic, inside cushioning - synthetic. If you buy leather case, you want it to be a top notch quality and materials, but this isn’t the case.

Though still it does the job - to protect the little TomTom..:)

4 Stars Elegant and classy case
This is a really nice case and it doesn’t add significantly to the dimensions of the gps so that it is still very compact inside the case. The only downside is it doesn’t offer maximal protection (from drops, blows, heavier impact)like some of the bulkier cases for this gps might offer, plus it is partially open so I’m not sure how protective it would be in a heavy rain. Fortunately, it’s small enough to put in a raincoat pocket or a waterproof or resistant bag.

When you compare Apples to Apples, the TomTom’s menu is harder to navigate, and the device is more likely to get you lost when compared with a similarly priced Garmin. My wife and I each purchased a GPS for eachother last Christmas. I bought her a Garmin StreetPilot, and she bought me the TomTom One. Her Garmin is the one we bring with us on trips, because it’s easier to use, and more accurate (both of us agree). Both devices are similarly priced, and for the money you’re far better off going with the Garmin.

1 Star Returned our tom tom
We have returned our tom tom DVD as it did not give good directions. On a road which we were extremely familiar with, it directed us to an exit two days in a row which we knew to be incorrect. Also, it did not call out the names of the street to turn on. Sometimes turns were very close together and questionable if we “just” depended upon the direction given.

For around $150 i think that this product was a great buy. Since purchasing i have only used this a handful of times, but have not run into any technical difficulties. The one issue i have had however is the suction cup doesnt seem to stick to the windshield very long. I noticed this with another tomtom device too so i’m wondering if i am missing something or if they are just “weak” to begin with.
