The Garmin Nuvi 260 along with other Garmin GPS products comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. The Garmin Nuvi 260 is the first in the range to have a “text to voice” capability, it will talk to you with street names as needed. The Garmin Nuvi 260 will also automatically put drivers back on course if they miss a turn.

One feature that is noticeable about the Nuvi 260 above previous models is the very fast signal acquisition as well as very accurate route calculation trip information including estimated time of arrival, speed, compass, odometer, and more route planning and re-routing plus “avoid area” routing.

With the jump from Nuvi 250 to the Nuvi 260, Garmin has added the ability to speak street names. For those looking to a more advanced gps product, going from the Nuvi 260 to the Nuvi 260w yields those same cool street naming capabilities but now you receive it in widescreen format.

What we liked about the Garmin Nuvi 260:

  • Attractively-priced and above-all simple to use
  • The Garmin Nuvi 260 features a color, sunlight readable TFT display with backlighting.
  • It includes many travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more
  • Plus, the Garmin Nuvi 260 includes a simple and easy to understand getting-started manual that isn’t 200 pages long and filled with jargon that only a teenager would understand
  • The nuvi 260 also comes with the Garmin Lock, a theft prevention system for the GPS.
  • Just use the touch screen to enter in the address or point of interest that you want to navigate to and the Nuvi 260 will provide both vocal and on screen directions to your destination. The Garmin Nuvi 260 can be viewed in either 2D overhead or a 3D view of the road ahead. The Nuvi 260 additionally has a pedestrian mode so it can give you the best directions for travel by foot. The Garmin Nuvi 260 will also accept the optional Garmin Travel Guide and Garmin Language guide to an SD card through on board SD memory card expansion slot.

Although it has been superceded by newer products from Garmin, this had led to it being possible to pick up a bargain at GPS stores such as Amazon where you can buy the Garmin Nuvi 260 for a very competitive price.
