3 Stars YOU BETTER PLUG IT IN BEFORE BED TIME!
I HATE THE BATTERY LIFE. IF YOU LEAVE IT ON OVER NIGHT AND TRY TO USE IT IN THE MORNING…FORGET IT! BATTERY WILL BE LOW AND THE WATCH WILL NOT WORK. YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE WATCH OFF AND PLUGGED IT IN OVER NIGHT TO HAVE ENOUGH JUICE TO WORK THE NEXT DAY. OTHER THEN THAT…THE WATCH IS GREAT, ESPECIALLY THE GPS. NO DEAD SPOTS DURING MY RUNS IN THE MORNING,EVEN UNDER THE TREES TOO. FOR THE PRICE OF THE WATCH..IT IS WORTH IT. JUST PLUG IT IN BEFORE BED TIME.
4 Stars Forerunner 205- Yep it is better than the 201
I travel globally and use a Forerunner to clock my runs. I’m probably overly reliant on it, but its great to take of in a strange city and know you’ll get the correct mileage in.
I liked the 201 and would have recommended it to others, but the flaws were clear. It was big and bit awkward to interface while running. Most significantly, it would sometime lose satellite tracking. This certainly happened more frequently in the face of physical interference- trees, buildings, but happened at other times as well. Sometimes it came back, sometime it didn’t. I lost signal half way through the Tokyo Marathon on a clear day in an area where it had worked in the past. It never came back even when we entered an area without tall buildings. During the same race the plastic around the wrist band pins fractured so it sort of flopped around on my wrist. Superglue extended its life another six months.
Then, I upgraded to the 205. Many improvements-
- Absolutely no trouble picking up fixes. It works fine in the northern VA woods where the 201 never worked. It has also functioned perfectly in the rain forests of the Dominican Republic; on the streets of Busan, South Korea; up and down the coast of Taiwan; in the urban canyons of Manhattan; and on the water in British Columbia.
It even catches a signal INSIDE my house.
- Gains signal much more quickly. If it has not moved far from the last satellite lock, it tracks in a couple of seconds as opposed to what seemed like again.
- Compact design not only looks and feels better, but I suspect will be my hardy.
- Easy to interface on the run.
- I like the feature where you can see which satellites it has locked onto.
4 Stars Great product!
This is the first product of this type that I have purchased and I am very pleased. It’s easy to use and does what I need it to… tracks distance, pace, time, etc. I recently just trained for my first marathon and couldn’t have done it w/o this watch! It was a breath of fresh air to put this on for the first time and know that I didn’t have to map out a route on my computer to know my distance. The only con I have is that it IS bulky… I usually wear it over my jacket and layers of clothes and it’s fine (which is actually a pro because it fits over all of my layers!) However, when just wearing it on my arm (no clothes underneath) it does get heavy. Nonetheless it’s a great product and I am about to buy a 2nd! (Mine got stolen on the plane ride home from the marathon… major bummer…)
Definitely recommend!
5 Stars best price found
This is the best price i have found for the Forerunner 205– I’ve looked all over and couldn’t find a better deal, or even close to it for a new one. It’s easy to use and fits my running needs, I like things that are simple which this model is. I’d buy it again if I had too.
5 Stars Perfect for first time marathoner
I am training for my first marathon in May and did a lot of online research before purchasing the Garmin 205. It is awesome-it accurately tracks my time, distance, and pace and I love the fact I can download that information onto my computer to keep track of my long runs. Very satisfied, makes the long runs that much more comfortable and beneficial to my training.
